Fellas!!! Would you let your woman get into politics?

So this was a Question of the day and to my surprise, most of my guy friends said "sure why not?" which i thought was cool! I love a man that is strong and secure enough in himself to see his woman succeed. What was even more surprising was that most of the men said they are not really big into politics.  One said also that if it got too crazy or dangerous, he would expect for her to bow out. Anyway this was a small poll of Nigerian men living in Nigeria and abroad. They were 5 in total, so i'm pretty optomistic about men's views.

So women! lets start to take a stand! get out there and flex ur political muscles! We can't sit back and worry about the future of our children if we dont make an effort to ensure it and ensuring it is thru political activity whether through direct involvement or voting and fundraising for a favorite candidate

From LA to NRC 2010- I've been busy

RANDOM: I'm proud to be a Nigerian! Yes I said it. You think Nigerians are proud people? Well I am, I have a reason to be, and I hope that pride will translate into making my country better.
Anyway as I said, I've been zipping and running all around the past few months. I'll try to update you in chronological order...

April: We had the UNIHIV Gala in April Check out events here UNIHIV News and Events. It was a success. We had a nice crowd with great crowd participation. We had amazing speakers like Razaq Adoti and Miss Nigeria in America 2009. We had a stunningly beautiful, charismatic, and smart host, Miss Black Conneticut, Osas Ighodaro, my homegirl who is also up for the Miss Black USA (support her). We had stars all around like Sammi Rotibi, Hakeem Kae Kassim, and more. Mike Okri performed! I love his Omoge song hehe! We had other local performers show support through performance such as Kevin Tapper, Ohdichi, etc. We had fashion.. Oui Oui le fasion! We had designs by natalia villafana. All in all I was happy about the hard work we put into it and the turn out. Note to nigerians: please whatever you do, try to do it at the best level of quality. Money making should not be the issue, you should focus on giving your crowd an experience so that they rememebr you and come back next year. I hope that we at UNIHIV did that.
The @UNIHIV team looked SHARP @ the hope4hiv charity gala

July part 2: just wrapped up another unihiv event in chicago. was smashing! Was movie premiere for REBIRTH. again check the unihiv events page for pics. I had to represent so i rocked a sexy red dress and red pumps. Bebe never lets me down. I felt comfy but sexy in that outfit so kudos to bebe store and kudos to my UNIHIV partner who actually picked out the outfit. A man with a sense of style rocks!

Anyway you can see that my timeline has been all UNIHIV this and that, so you know thats taking up most of my life.

In other angel news.. I think i need to change the blog name because I dont think relocation to naija is happening any time soon. I applied for jobs and they are not really looking to pay a relocation fee. I really want to move back, but relocation is a must, even if the fee is small. So any NGOs or companies out there that are looking for a smart epidemiologist with a love for hiv/std surveillence and experience with research on sexual risk behaviors and drug use, and experience puting together field studies and interventions in addition to having a strong statistical background, call me email me for my resume! I'm ready to relocate to naija.

Lol so thats whats been up. more blogging to come.

Beautiful People

Ok so I've been slacking on blogging because really I've been doing so much and haven't had time to focus on me or reflect, but I thought this topic would help me ease back into things...

So I always hear the word beutiful.
"You are so beautiful!"
"Thats such a beautiful person right there"
"He's beautiful inside and out"
                          "You've got a beautiful soul"

But I really wanted to know what people saw as beautiful because all this beauty talk is starting to get me confused. Is it the inside? What about the inside makes you beautiful? Is it the outside, that face, high cheekbones, the figure, natural, weaved out, what?

So I just posted the question as the question of the day on my blackberry Messenger and here are a few comments I got.

"Hey...my concept of beauty will be simple and confident...lol...
I think its more of a personal definitionof what I'll call simple in looks...some people do a great job pulling off some really complex looks lol, but striking beauty for me would be simple and confident(for looks) for any other things, hum, simplicity still appeals the most to me"
-Anonymous Female, Lagos

"Beauty is peacefull. Nice hearted inside and out, not fake"
-Anonymous Male, Philadelphia

"My definition of beauty is being able to use resources given to you and channeling them [for] a greater good"
-Anonymous Female, Bay Area

"Ambition, the God in her, personality, mentality, and of course Looks:)"
-Anonymous Male, Boston

"Personality! A cute person with no character is ugly... Looks fade but personaility is long lasting"
-Anonymous Male, New Jersey

"I can date a guy who looks like eye candy, but I can't let him be the father of my kids. No way, that's a deal breaker. Most of my real relationships have been with someone I clicked with mentally and not based just on looks. Looks to me are beauty, but to be a beautiful person is so much more"
-Anonymous Female, Michigan

"U really wanna know? A big kondo, fat pockets, and model looks. Lol just kidding, beauty 2 me is ones ability to be selfless and think outside themselves. A caring man is the sweetest. Confidence is also beautiful. His faith in God too. And his calming nature"
-Anonymous Female, Philadelphia

"Beauty has to be natural and come from within, and not forced or manufactured. Women I think are beautiful e.g. Kerry Washington, Mrs Huxtible"
-Anonymous Male, New Jersey

So basically the common denominator is that it's not physical looks that define beauty but the inner parts of a person, their kindness, calm, natural, sweet natured, and loving spirit. Thats deep.

So then WHY are people putting so much stock on physical looks? Why are we going out of our way to make people who dont have high cheek bones or are not tall n slender with a badunka feel bad? All God created is beauty. Let recognize that we are all perfectly human, created by the Lord for a purpose and that this looks and flesh will not follow us into heaven, will not get us into the gates of heaven. My rihanna weave wont give me extra favor. lol ok that was a joke. but lets be real.

Next time you see a guy you think is cute walking with a girl you think is 'ugly' and ask 'ewww why is he with her" stop and think to yourself that she's got a man, she has been blessed with and you are pining over him manless because God dont like 'ugly'! The type of ugly that rots you on the inside.

Anyway on that note, I'm off to work on my beauty... aka off to make myself a better person.
