Nigeria at 50: A call to action!

Okay! So this whole thought of Nigeria at 50, the celebrations, the issues we try to throw to the side is really making me move.... I want to rally. not just a thought. I'm become more of something I HAVE to do.

We all agree something is wrong with the way our country is running. a country is like a family. If things are going wrong, we have to step up and intercede on behalf of the whole family b/c it represents each of us. We are Nigeria and Nigeria's Legacy. Like in any family there are people that marry out... aka move to another country... but doesn't make us any less a part of that family. We are still Nigerian... nee Nigeria, omo Nigeria. Just like no matter what family I marry into, I will always be an Adelaja.. Nee Adelaja or however they say it in Yoruba.

So lets make a statement! Nigeria at 50 is a call to action... We always say Nigerians like to TALK, and FLASH... Well sorry, there is no more Status Quo! We are no longer about talk. We are about Action. We are no longer about Flash, we are about doing what we have to to get the job done. We are no longer about Status Quo, when status quo is not benefiting us, we look to change! I've heard my call to action, have you heard yours?

So on that note, Facebook page on the way, promo video is coming, petition pages will be created for you to get and have friends sign! Start making your signs! We are rallying o! It will Happen o!

And for those in Nigeria, I hope for a Rally at the ROCK ... Aso Rock to be precise, so be bold and make it happen there! We abroad support you!

The Lord can interpret your Dreams! Just Ask

Let me start by saying.. in Job 33:15, the bible defines a dream as "in a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed.

Okay so those that read my blog know that I had a zombie dream. Well actually, for the past few days, I've been having really vivid crazy dreams. Some were really scary, some based on my real life, some based in fiction. Its even more weird when you have no meaning to what you are dreaming. So after church yesterday, and after talking to a friend of mine about another dream I had, I drove in my car and started praying to God. I prayed to Him, thanked Him for being my Father, a never ending God, in control of all. I thanked him for being a Magnificent All Powerful God, and all of a sudden I started praying about my dreams. I prayed and asked Him that He take control, that in the bible, there is nothing that says dreams are bad, and that, in fact;God helped Joseph and Daniel decipher dreams. So I asked HIM to reveal to me all my dreams. I told HIM that I am happy i can go to HIM and ask Him for ALL things, and that what I was asking for was that He as the Creator of dreams should also be my Interpretor. I asked that anything the devil tries to put in my head, the Lord should cast out, that I rebuke lies and deceit, because the Lord is the truth and light. I asked that dreams that have no meaning, I should be able to discern from dreams where the Lord is delivering His Word to me. As you know not all dreams are prophetic, some are just dreams, some are lies, and some are visions in sleep of things to come, changeable or unchangeable. I kept asking the Lord to reveal his message to me when there is one. That I am ready for it.

okay lets rewind back... some time ago, my mom had a dream about me, that I would get into a car accident. Before I left on a trip,  she called me when she woke and started praying for me. We prayed... and prayed............................... and prayed. And I really dismissed the whole thing. I shouldn't have because God was truly speaking. If my mom didn't pray for me, I would have had a really bad situation. Basically, I was driving, I wasn't tired and I got a great nights sleep the night before, but all of a sudden, sleep befell me, and I fell asleep at the wheel and almost ran into the median. Well actually I did run into the barrier, but only my side mirror and wheel hit. We thank God that I got a phone call that buzzed me awake and got me to have control of the wheel. If I didn't get that call, I would be road kill! We thank God for that intervention. God moved someone to WAKE me. It wasn't my time, and God warned us so we could pray for his favor.

Here's the thing, I pulled into a rest stop which was only half a mile away from where I fell asleep and I called my mom and said "don't ever call me to tell me I will be in an accident!". I was freakin' FREAKED OUT at that time! at that time i didn't realize what I was saying. it was an ungrateful statement. I was basically saying that the Lord should not reveal things to me. so my mom basically put me in check to let me know... HEY! the Lord reveals things to people in many ways and if he has revealed something to someone to give you that message, you should be ready to accept that message at ALL times. Its the difference between life and death. So i really saw what she meant and thanked God and thanked him and thanked him! God is good...

okay going back to my dreams.... so after my prayer, I went on with my day. I even by evening forgot my prayer. I was on to other things... but I am living proof that the Lord does answer prayers... lets get to what I actually want to write about... this is going to be a LONG blog...

Okay so let me start by saying that I am a geek. I love everything scifi... I love zombie movies, vampire movies, alien movies, and high tech end of the world type of movies. As a christian, I know that bad, but I never cut them out. Bad bad me. I watch shows such as Tru Blood, Star Gate SG1, Haven, Eurika, etc.

Anyway last night my favorite cast from Star Gate SG1 was in my dreams. I was there too! Basically, there was something like a virus or bug that was making things rapidly rot. It started slowly and all of a sudden would quickly take over the world without warning and rot everything DEAD! This included the people, including my SG1 cast, you and me. THEN.... We would un-rot, and have a change to try to slow, stop or reverse the "bug". We tried it several times. All sorts of science didn't work! Nothing worked. I woke up, and rather than stay awake, I went back to sleep! I went back to trying to solve it in my dream and I started to pray in my dream. As I was praying I was saying that I am a child of God and that I choose life, not death. I kept saying that the devil has no power over me. somehow the rotting passed me and a few people over as it waved over the earth. and then as usual, it refreshed and the rotting started again, but this time, I knew where it was coming from. there was a bin with maggots/termite type bugs, and they were ready to start rotting evertyhing on earth. The team was recognized with a medal and made in charge of thing, but people didnt realize that it wasnt science that stopped the rot, it was prayer, and when people didnt realize that, the rot came back and even reached the space station where the SG1 team was. Noone was safe. But in praying over and over again, I kept getting spared. and the rot could tell who was of God and who wasn't. It had no effect, and ever ran from those who were God's children. We were ministering to the rot... and I woke up...

WOW. that dream was intense. I got up to go to the bathroom and midstream... yes i started praying and peeing... but mid stream i started praying. I was praying in my mind, and all of a sudden I started praying aloud. I usually dont like to pray aloud because my mouth is not as fast as my mind, but I was moved to pray aloud and it was just as fast as my SPIRIT b/c i was trying to understand what i was praying. Man!!!! what in the world... or I should say what in the heavens... My prayers as I was hearing myself was a revelation of my dream. I kid you not. I just started crying and praying. We thank God!

That revelation was not anything I didn't know. The long and short is that all of this is God's. He is the creator. He has control of all. even the devil. The Lord will allow the devil to test us. After all we all have free will. and get this... we all get 2nd chances. We all get a chance to do it over, but if we keep doing it over the wrong way, then we are choosing death. things of this earth are of the flesh. it may look pretty on the outside, but its really rotting inside. And there is no science or rational that can prevent it. Only the Lord has that power. So why are we looking to science, money, psychics, or things of the flesh? it wont stop the rot. And remember, God only gives us so many chances until our chances are up and he calls us to be judged.

For me, I want to be among the first wave, those that reach the gates and are permitted entry, and if I live to see the End of Days, I want to be part of that Second wave where Jesus calls us up to him. I dont want to stay on this earth to be part of that ROTTING and DEATH. Everlasting LIFE is my portion !!!! We thank God!!!!

So that was my dream!...

On a side note, yesterday in church they talked about spiritual maturity and how you can't be satisfied with just being born again. That maturing in your Christian life is a must! So in my prayer, I thanked him for this step in the process to spiritual maturity. God is calling me to MATURE. Is he calling you? If so, dont let it go to Voicemail, Pick up and answer that Call! Answer each and every time he Calls. Let the Holy Spirit be that special ring tone!

Anyway sorry to get all preachy today, but that dream just moved me this morning. So there you have it. I hope you learned something from this that I'm sharing! We thank God for it....

And BTW, I just found while writing this blog a great webpage that talks about dreams and the bible... a nice read. What does Bible say about DREAMS?

Have a great and bless week folks!

Voting outside of Nigeria

I had the privilege to talk to a friend of mine last year about the Gabonese elections. Apparently they have absentee balloting at embassies all over the world. People can register and can go to the embassies and consulates with their passports! They can vote and its handled in house! And best of all, their votes count... however small the percentage of overall votes...Go Figure!

And it made me think. There are so many Nigerian living outside of Nigeria. In the USA, we are the largest African community. We are the most educated immigrant population too, but yet we cant put our heads together to fight for our RIGHT to vote in Nigerian elections. There's no "out of sight out of mind" when it comes to the rights of a Nigerian.

Anyway I fast forward to a conversation I was having with one of my Nigerian Big Sistah. She was so upset at the whole hullaballoo about Nigeria at 50 and the monies being spent on it, when so little is spent on Nigerian healthcare or education. She was appauled by the groups here in america putting together parades and celebrations and making money off of independence parties while their counterparts suffer from hunger, disease, and lack of infrastructure. "What is there to celebrate" she said. I brought up that as Nigerians many times we can spend to go to Nigeria for December vacation, but we can't make a sacrifice to make our voice heard for the good out our country.

Where are the rallies? Where are the protests? Wheres the action? Is there even one event focused on discussion and holding people accountable for Nigeria as a Failed state so far?

Basically, if we don't take ourselves seriously, Nigerian crooks... oops i mean "politicians", wont take us seriously. Imagine if there was a great campaign with celebrities and dignitaries promoting forgoing leisure travel to Nigeria for the sole purpose of sparking a mass migration to Naija during election season. Imagine!

Also imagine if we could lobby to have absentee balloting now that we have our new biometric passports. I'm sure there's an independent firm out there that could be contracted to conduct non partisan, non-biased elections processes at Nigerian Embassies and consulates world wide. We are smart people. Lets think here! I would love to rally and lobby for such an ability. Just because I no dey 4 my papa land no mean I no dey Nigerian. I'm a Nigerian O! Green Pali for me o! I want to VOTE o!

Lets see which politicians would back something like that. Maybe only the ones that believe in a fair and free elections... ermm... none? God forbid! Well lets see. The thought is out there. I'm not claiming intellectual property rights on this. who ever is capable and sure of heart should get it done!

Anyway until then, I have resigned to the fact that I just must prepare myself for voting in Nigeria! I will be there! I will be ready! I will Vote! and for the first time ever. Meet me at the Polling booth, its going down!

Zombies?

Okay so II'm a bit of a sci-fi geek and every once in a while I have an alien/time travel/zombies type dream. Okay so I had this crazy zombie dream last night. No I didn't watch a movie before bed. It was unprovoked. Basically, People were turning left and right. They weren't decaying, at least not all of them, They were pretty much in the state that they "died" or were turned in. I was with a group of people including John Leguizamo and Enrique Iglesias. Of course Johnny Boy was the bass-ass, and enrique was the one that always got us into deep dog dudu.

Okay thats neither here nor there. The real issue was that at one point I found myself in a football field full of zombies, and they only attached when they a)saw me moving erratically. b)came close enough to their face, or when c)I interfered with their "normal" rote movements.
When I hid and watched them, they just kept doing movements that they normally did in life. for example on the football field, some players kept moving their arm like they were throwing, some kept kicking, some kept running forward repeatedly, some kept running from side to side.

They weren't really dead. they were just in the state that they were when they turned. Meaning they had a diminished sense of others around them unless related to normal movement. Some zombies retained the ability to talk, but it wasn't conversation level speech, it was more like memory of sentences they most frequently said in their past life (past living life).

For example, at some point I made my way onto a bus (sounds like a bad idea huh? well okay let me premise the bus story. Basically on the football field I realized that not everyone was "DEAD" there were a few people that learned to interact with zombies on the zombie level that were still alive. one guy just hid in the electrical cabinet, another guy hid behind a pillar, and another dude was actually just pacing back and forth at a steady pace. at one point he made sure he walked in such a way that each pace in my direction was larger than in the opposite direction and when he got close to me, he whispered that he's not a zombie and that there seems to be a trick to dealing with the zombies, that I should follow him, but while he was saying that, zombies noticed his non-normal behavior and attacked us!)

this leads us to the Bus scene... so we ran and it took a while for some zombies to "wake up" from their routine to chase us... some where less sensitive than others... so it gave us time to get to a bus... he said we should follow him. so we did and crazy enough, we walked onto a full of zombies just sitting. we get on and sit too. the bus driver is noticeably a zombie. he doesn't ask for fare, but when I didn't put it, he sort of grunted "fare" so i dug for change and put it in lol! As we sat we realized that there were actually about eight of us that were non-zombies (mind you that you turn if you get the spit/blood of a zombie in a wound or tissue that is permeable to virus, sort of like HIV) Anyway the bus is taking us on this long route.

One guy in front disturbs the driver enough from his routine that the driver is aggravated and attacks him, funny enough the driver keeps saying "if you think you can do any better, you take the wheel" which makes me believe he probably said it before to a passenger or had that reoccurring though in his mind while "alive", both fall out of the door of the moving bus. this gives another man a quick opportunity to grab wheel of bus. Its so hard not to react and to stay still. Anyway many of the zombies seem "shut off" some are so involved in their routine like the woman in front of me knitting. I can tell she's a zombie because the back of her head is partially ripped out.

Anyway we are able to get off the bus and burn it(thats the thing about dreams... o don't remember how now) and we are in a podunk town thats empty, maybe zombies mass migrated or or are dormant. either way, we walk towards the most rural area with corn fields and no-civilization. We walk for miles. we see an airplane fall out of the sky some distance away from using the direction of the metropolitan area, we get to deep corn field and see unturned black people playing golf in the fields!!! Whats weird is that there are NO birds, or animals of any sort. Where are they. Anyway a biker band rides through and we hide, but they stop and find us, kill the black people, but not my group... any i'm black... i dunno why, maybe because they were yuppies... lol anyway we fight until they induct us into their group. they carry tanks of pesticide with them. apparently they use it to numb zombies, because the poisonous chemicals in the pesticides that cause parkinsonian like symptoms in us, cause no movement for zombies...

Okay then I woke up..

so lets get down to the fact/fiction/plausible/not plausible portion..

1) okay maybe the virus is something that only attacks the brain and nervous system. This justifies why they had diminish ability to think on a higher level but still retained some ability to talk, and move as they did when they were alive. maybe there is Zombie IQ because some were more skilled than others and retained more higher order function and thought process. Also maybe accounts for why some were in a deeper state of "dead" meaning they weren't as sensitive to us moving in a non-ordered pattern. this may have to do with duration of infection, IQ, ability to rally from infection, etc

2)they weren't quite living dead... they didn't smell dead, they were just "sleeping" they could breath and walk etc. so this brings me to another issue, if zombies by tradition are living dead, and they are pretty much moving corpses, why is it that they move at all? muscles need oxygen and nutrients to move. If the body is decaying, so is the nervous system too, then the brain cant send signal to the rest of body to move. so it must be an infection of an isolated organ or part of organ ie brain. remember many times viruses have an affinity to specific tissue (ie Herpes Symplex virus 1 versus 2, different types of HPV, and even the Herpes Zoster virus).

3) brings me to question "why don't zombies attack each other" in my humble opinion... and i'm not a zombie expert, it way be for a number of reasons. some people say pheramones. one thing i love about viruses is that they can make your body produce whatever it wants your body to produce! It can code for proteins that lead to increased pheramone production, increased activity of cells to produce new organs, increased production of onco-genes to keep cells from "dying" etc. ok also could be that if only higher level thought is affected, there is something primitive that keeps us, animals, and zombies from being "cannibal" meaning they don't each each other, but they don't see us "living" as one of them so they can eat us.

4)zombies that don't attack unless provoked or unless they notice erratic movement? i love this concept of higher order function and a virus that only affects a specific portion of the brain. when they used the pesticides to freeze the zombies it really fit into that theory because pesticides many times affect the thalamus and dopaminergic system. so maybe in the zombies the virus codes also for increased production of dopamine receptors, not just in the cells of the thalamus but all over, since all cells have full genetic code, but have parts of DNA that are methylated and such, maybe virus can code to undo methylation and cause production of things that particular cells don't normally produce. Reverse cell differentiation... love this idea.

5) maybe zombies don't want to feed or attack to spread virus. maybe the virus just spreads like other viruses we have in our real world, and like rabies makes person attack b/c of dis-inhibition or something. affecting frontal cortex areas? i dunno.

6) ok one thing that really irked me in my dream was that for the life of me i could not find any animals? no zombie animals, no animal corpses, no living animals, WTH? is it that my mind could not handle factoring in animals into the dream? or is it that maybe in my subconsciousness i believe that animals could sense the "turning" of zombies and got the hell out of dodge, or maybe animals were turned but it makes then commit secret suicide, they go hide and die, or causes photosensitivity, so they hate light (b/c my whole dream was in daytime) Remember that movie alien, when they killed the alien, and exploded it into pieces, but then a rat came and munched on the little piece of exploded alien and then it turned? does that happen with animals? or do animals lack the part of the brain that the virus needs to replicate. lets delve into differences in our genetic code to see what may be a protective factor for animals. maybe we can make a zombie vaccine!

ok so there you have it... my zombie rant. feel free to comment and give your own thots on this and my dream. Can Angelina Jolie-Pitt or Angela Basset play me in a movie? is my dream movie worthy lol!Where are you warner brothers? Id wanna cast John Leguizamo to play himself!

Diary of a Gidi-Girl disclaimer: My Nigerian friends may not find this as interesting cuz it seems they are not much into sci-fi, they plead the blood of Jesus on anything alien or fictional... so as a Nigerian, I'll say "God forbid we ever have a zombie virus or get overrun by zombies" in all honesty, i do rebuke zombies because it would be such a scary thing. However, you never know whats going to happen at the endtimes. only God knows and God is in control.

Vive la music!!!

This one goes out to all my francophone! I have the pleasure of presenting to you, a woman of God, a sweet person, with a humble heart, who is blessed with a BIG voice. That Big voice belongs to Rafiya, aka Nicole Ngokwey. Amazing actually because not everyone is blessed with such a voice, but God blessed her, and guess what, he duplicated her, she's a twin, and her twin is just as talented. They started singing together at a small age and formed EMINIK, for Emily and Nicole. They toured with major music artist and always wowed people with their voice. The were also sensible enough to get great educations and do amazingly well in school and though its just Nicole singing now, you are blessed to hear the voice that God created through her. I think this is a girl that is really going places. She sings in multiple languages, English, French, and her native language. She really is also a cross-over artist and many people can identify with her. I see her going place FAST. There's no auto tunes, no synthesizers here, her voice is pure! If you like her as much as I do, you can get a copy of her CD entitled Amazing here . She's truly amazing.

Homelessness

Today I wanted to talk about homelessness. There are so many people who are a
  • missed rent payment
      •  a bad relationship
  • another month no paycheck
      • a mental health disorder
away from being on the streets. If you dont get me, I am trying to say that many people find themselves in situations where they have no other choice but to live on the streets. Its compounded by the lack of family support, inability for some to access care or resources, the inability for mental health services to account for all that have mental disorders that roam the streets.

I remember when I lived in Philadelphia. When I first moved there, I used to see so many homeless people and think
"Maybe they shouldn't have dropped out, or used drugs"

"Eww they smell like urine"

"Bums are unappreciative"
No joke, and i'm woman enough to admit that I had those silly thoughts, but it was a totally flawed way of thinking. If you walked a mile in the shoes of some, you realize that each story is different. Just as not all rich people made their money through being hard working, not all people on the streets have jaded pasts.

I have grown in my thinking on this, as I was able to experience and have contact with people in this situation. Working with homeless people and giving to them, especially the homeless mothers and babies. And I believe that God has a plan for all of us, even those who find themselves in difficult situations.

I thank God for all my unmerited blessings and hope that as He blesses me, he can use me as a vessel to deliver blessings to others.

Count your blessing and thank God for what he's given you. make sure you are living your life to his glory because at any moment, all he has blessed you with can be taken away.  ... God forbid those bad things, but I'm just saying..

And now that you have read this... maybe you should stake a lunch or plate, clothing or something helpful to a person in need.

-Love Always
Angel
